Universal Borrowing From Other UW-System Libraries
Universal Borrowing is a service available to all UWP students, faculty and staff. If the Karrmann Library
does not own the item you want, you may search other
catalogs by clicking on the Other Catalog button at the top of your screen. Essentially, you will be
checking out materials from any of the other UW campus libraries and it will be delivered to your home library
(a.k.a. Karrmann Library) via a state wide delivery system.
To make a UB request:
- Connect to the Karrmann Library Catalog http://pltlib.wisconsin.edu/
- Search Karrmann's Catalog to make sure that we do not already own the item.
- If the item in question is not in the Karrmann library, Click on the Other Catalogs button.
- From the Select Other Catalogs Screen, select the other catalogs that you want to search.
Click on the Connect button
- Enter your search query as usual. Note that the search interface is similiar to the Karrmann library catalog.
- The Simultaneous Searching screen will appear. This shows the catalog(s) being searched and the number
of records it has found.
Click on Show Results
- A Title List will appear.
- Click on the desired title to view its
Record Display
- The item record will indicate which library or libraries own the item and its status (i.e. checked out, etc.)

required to at this point.
